What should I wear to a portrait session?
We want you to feel free to be yourself. Your selection of attire can make a big difference to both of us. The right clothes, jewelry and makeup will give you confidence that you look your best, and it will help you enjoy your session. Good choices will also give us the maximum freedom to use any artistic and technical creativity.
Colors
If you have a choice, matching colors and using solid clothing makes the difference between a snapshot and a portrait. Black, navy or burgundy are examples of the deep colors that work well with a dark background. Denim, white, and pastels go well with a white background or with an outdoor setting.
Wardrobe
Long sleeves are best (bare arms distract from the face). Allow for different poses in different methods. A jacket and tie might be appropriate for one pose, open collar and shirtsleeves for another. Wear layers you can put on or take off. Be comfortable! Allow for ease of movement and natural positioning.
Jewelry
Keep jewelry to a minimum. Metals cause unwanted reflections. If you want to wear earrings or a brooch, keep them small.
Makeup
Women may wish to have makeup applied professionally. If you do your own makeup, apply foundation with a clean makeup sponge. Cover with loose skin tone powder. Apply blush with a clean, dry makeup sponge. Then use large, soft brush to apply a final layer of loose powder to eliminate any harsh blush outline. Apply mascara lightly. Use eyebrow pencil to improve the natural eyebrow line. Apply lip liner and fill in with a good lipstick. 
Application Tips
Women
Take care not to get makeup on your clothing. Dress first, and then wear a plastic cape or other protector to ensure that loose powder or lipstick stains don't interfere with how great you look!
Men
We may apply a light layer of powder to eliminate shine on forehead, nose, chin and bald spots. Don't feel awkward about wearing makeup for a photo session: it's normal!
Hair
You may wish to have your hair styled professionally. If you wear you hair tied back, do not wear a big bow. Use a barrette or other subtle accessory. You may wish to consider fixing your hair differently for different poses.

The session fee covers the photographer's time and talent, pre-consultation and post production work, including minor touch-ups. Prints are sold separately. At Moments in Time, session fee is for up to 4 people ($25 per additional person).
Session fee includes viewing of proofs for ordering in studio.
What is your Studio Session Cancellation Policy?
We request 24 hours notice should you need to reschedule. If you've already paid us, then your session fee will be transferred to your rescheduled session.

Working for a not for profit organization means you often have to reach out into your community in unique ways to maximize your budget. I was looking for a way to photograph young Halifax children who have Type 1 diabetes. I work for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and putting a face to the disease is important. Joe and Janane were fabulous with a photo shoot using eight children ranging from ages 3 to 12. He caught their smiles, their playfulness and even managed to catch them in a group shot that we can use to advertise our fundraising efforts. We live in Calgary and got married in Halifax this year. I met Joe when I was home and I knew instantly that I wanted him to be our photographer. My husband trusted my instincts and as soon as he met him he knew I had made the right choice. Joe has this knack of putting people at ease. Your wedding day is stressful enough and being able to put the creativity of the pictures in a great photographers hand is so important. We first met Joe during a bridal show and we found ourselves returning to his table a few times throughout the day. We were captivated by his photos. From the first moment, we knew we wanted him to capture our loved ones and us on our wedding day.

We chose Nova Scotia as our destination for our wedding as we wanted to truly capture the wonderful autumnal colours on our special day,
Coming from Northern Ireland we just don't have such wonderful colours in the autumn.

Joe traveled up to Cape Breton on the day before our wedding and met up with us to discuss what we wanted out of the wedding pictures, he also used his time to scout out suitable locations for pictures.

On the day everything went according to plan and Joe truly did capture the essence of what we wanted to achieve. The full vibrant autumnal colours were incorporated into our pictures as well as the natural beauty of Baddeck. We had great difficult in choosing our final selection from so many wonderful pictures.

Joe captured us and our guests in our most relaxed state and the intimate off guard pictures obtained truly reflect on what a wonderful day it was. Most of the time we were not even aware of Joe’s presence clicking away on the cameras.

He made us all feel truly relaxed and at ease. Lucia and I would both like to thank you for capturing such wonderful and precious moments on our wedding day.

We chose Nova Scotia as our destination for our wedding as we wanted to truly capture the wonderful autumnal colours on our special day, Coming from Northern Ireland we just don't have such wonderful colours in the autumn.

Joe of Moments in Time Photography was recommended to us by our wedding consultant and I have to say that Joe and his crew did not disappoint us.

Joe and his team were great to work with!! We originally thought that we would have like to have our pictures taken at one location, but once we arrived there the tides and weather were not looking so pretty. Joe had no problem relocating and because of his flexibility we were able to find a beautiful spot for our engagement pictures.
At first posing for pictures seemed a bit awkward, but soon after we started it all became very natural. Joe and his team created a very comfortable atmosphere while capturing amazing photos. We are very pleased with what Moments In Time Photography has given us thus far..........and we cannot wait to see how the pictures from the wedding turn out...I am sure they will be just as amazing:) Thank you so much for making our experience a memorable one!!!!
